Board Members

  • Peter Droussiotis – Chairman

    Peter, a barrister by background, is the Founding Director of PGD Strategy, a UK-headquartered corporate finance and strategy consulting firm established 25 years ago. He is a corporate finance, M&A and strategy consulting specialist with a primary focus on the financial services, insurance and technology space, having completed a wide range of transactions with an aggregate value in the billions of £, over a career spanning more than 35 years.

    His experience includes roles with Lloyd’s of London, Credit Suisse, Minet (Aon), and PwC. Amongst several non-executive roles, Peter has also served as a Senior Independent Non-Executive Director at premier insurance software provider Sequel Business Solutions (now Verisk Specialty).

    Peter is an active community volunteer and a keen environmentalist, as Founder Chairman of the UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council and, also, of the Cyprus Environment Foundation, part of the UK-headquartered Conservation Collective. He has previously been the elected leader of the UK Cypriot diaspora, as President of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK for 8 years.

  • Dr Lakis Andronicou

    Lakis has more than 40 years’ varied experience in the oil and gas industry which includes research and development, consultancy, risk analysis and appraisal of land based and offshore structures associated with energy projects on a worldwide basis.

    He has served as Manager of the London Energy Operations and Global Technology Manager in Lloyd’s Register and currently as an independent consultant. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company.

  • Alexis Atteslis

    Alexis grew up in Cyprus and after graduating from The English School, Nicosia, and completing his military service, he moved to the UK to study.

    Alexis received an M.A. from the University of Cambridge and has earned a Chartered Accountant qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

    He has worked in investment banking and asset management for the last 20 years. He is currently a Co-Head to Europe and Partner at OHA, a multi strategy assert manager with $65B assets under management.

  • Tatiana der Avedissian

    Tatiana Der Avedissian is a communications and sustainability expert. She is head of business development for Economist Impact’s World Ocean Initiative and sits on The Economist Group’s sustainability steering committee.

    Der Avedissian runs her own consultancy and uses her expertise to advise and support other organisations with their strategic communication and business needs. She’s advised the G7’s Women 7 (W7) and G20’s Women 20 (W20) on climate and gender policy recommendations.
    Der Avedissian also serves on the board of non-profits in the UK and globally.

    She is co-founder of The Armenia Project, co-president of Alkionides UK, chair of trustees of the Armenian Institute, co-president of the Harvard Kennedy School Women’s Alumni Network and board member of the UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council. She has taught ethics and politics for the Escuela de Gobierno Universidad Hemisferios in Ecuador as a guest professor.

  • Charles Ellinas

    Charles has over 35 years experience in the oil & gas sector in senior management positions. Currently CEO of e-CNHC (E-C Cyprus Natural Hydrocarbons Company Ltd), providing management and advisory services in the oil & gas and energy sectors in Cyprus and the region. A lot needs to be done and the aim of the company is to contribute to the successful development of these sectors for the future of Cyprus.

    Prior to this, as CEO of KRETYK, Cyprus’ national hydrocarbons company, I was responsible for implementing Cyprus government’s strategy for the development of its hydrocarbons sector.

    Until 2012 I was a Director of Mott MacDonald for 25 years and the Managing Director of Mott MacDonald’s Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals business world-wide.

    Charles is also Features Editor, Natural Gas World Senior Fellow, Global Energy Center, Atlantic Council and Fellow Institute of Energy for South-East Europe

  • Lawrence Kymisis

    Lawrence is an equity portfolio manager at Capital Group. He has 29 years of investment industry experience and has been with Capital Group for 21 years. Earlier in his career at Capital as an equity investment analyst, he covered small- and mid-cap companies across Europe as a generalist, as well as business services and the gaming and service industries.

    Prior to joining Capital, Lawrence was a portfolio manager and analyst at Mercury Asset Management/Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. He holds a master’s degree in economics (international relations) from the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree in economics and politics from the University of Bristol. Lawrence is based in London.

  • Dr Andreas Kyriacou

    Andreas is a first-generation London Cypriot who has maintained close ties with the Cypriot community in the UK for over four decades. He serves as a Director and Treasurer of the UKCEC.

    With a distinguished career as a senior advisor in the green energy transition and decarbonisation sector, Andreas specializes in renewable infrastructure projects both in the UK and internationally. He currently advises a UK offshore wind developer, a technology startup in the biodiversity sector, and is a co-developer of a circular economy project in Cyprus that converts farm waste into green electricity and bio-fertiliser. Previously, Andreas dedicated over thirty years to various corporate roles in the offshore oil and gas service sector.

    A passionate supporter and fundraiser for environmental NGOs, Andreas is involved with the Cycladic Preservation Fund and the Cyprus Environmental Foundation, both part of the Conservation Collective group in the UK. Additionally, he contributes to academia as a Visiting Professor and Chairperson for UCL’s Civil Engineering Industrial Advisory Panel.

    Andreas holds a degree and PhD in civil and environmental engineering from UCL in London.

  • Rikos Leong-Son

    Rikos started his career in the City working for a number of blue chip and dynamic financial services firms in a number of senior roles. He founded two start-up companies: one a marketing & operations consultancy, the other an internet start-up.

    Rikos joined Wafflemeister at the start of its journey. He has focused on building a scalable brand across multiple distribution channels by focusing on product development, processes and systems which have led to consistency of product and service. Setting this up in a positive and exciting working environment for team members and partners alike has supported and enabled rapid growth from a lean platform.

    Rikos received an BSc in Economics, Accounting & Finance from the London School of Economics

  • Sophie Michael

    Sophie grew up in London after her parents both emigrated from Cyprus and has always held close ties with the Cypriot community in the UK. She has a deep passion for the island of Cyprus and has visited every year for at least the past three decades. Sophie serves as a committee member of the UKCEC.

    Sophie leads the Retail and Wholesale sector at BDO LLP where she is a Business Assurance partner. She has over 25 years experience as an audit partner and held various senior management roles at BDO and currently leads on the strategy and development of the firm’s retail and wholesale industry sector.

    Sophie regularly presents at workshops, webinars and provides monthly press commentary in the context of the BDO High Street Sales Tracker which provides insight on consumer spending and sentiment. She also leads on the production of a widely read annual retail forecast report and other material relating to the firm’s retail sector including the regular webinars which focus on topical issues for the sector. Sophie takes an enormous interest on the retail sector, recognising its importance to the UK economy and communities.

    Her mix of skills in corporate finance, business assurance and management roles gives Sophie significant experience on advising entities on managing change and growth.

  • Dr Maria Neophytou

    Maria is the executive director of strategy for a leading children’s charity and serves on several boards and think tanks, including the UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council since it was founded in 2013.

    She has been active in cross-communal Cypriot initiatives since her student days and has been instrumental in reactivating the Labour Cypriot Society.

    Maria’s primary expertise is in strategy, public policy and research, exploring how we can harness evidence in aid of social change. As well as holding several roles in the charity sector, she has previously worked as a public servant in the European Parliament in Brussels, and for the Equality and Human Rights Commission leading international policy.

    She gained her PhD at Cambridge University, where her research was on gender equality and international relations.

    Andreas is Chief Investment Officer of Argo Group Ltd a specialist emerging markets asset management‎ firm. He has 30 years’ experience in emerging markets trade finance and distressed investing. He has undertaken recovery work in many difficult jurisdictions and over the last 20 years at Argo has built up a formidable distressed/activist reputation in emerging markets and spearheaded some of the firm’s most successful distressed debt/restructuring investments across global emerging markets.

    Before founding Argo in 2000 he worked for the emerging markets proprietary trading division of Deutsche Bank and London Forfaiting Plc. He is a lawyer by training and was called to the Bar in 1992

  • Kevin Regan

    Kevin is a financier specialising in the development of new capital markets products. Kevin traces his roots back to Cyprus and is passionate about the island and the Greek world.

    Kevin began his career at CSFB, a Swiss American investment bank, before spending many years working at Merrill Lynch and UBS. Kevin ran several capital market businesses over this period, and was a board member at both Merrill Lynch Europe and UBS Ltd. Kevin was a pioneer of many important debt capital market financial products including the Euro medium Term Note, Global FRN, and also led the inaugural product launch for the first Lower Tier 2, Upper tied 2 and AT1 preference share issues issued by leading UK and European banks.

    Kevin then moved to the buyside and co-founded a pure credit fund manager which successfully grew AUM for some years, before establishing his own FCA regulated boutique devoted to developing new financial products and opening new market opportunities for institutional investors.

    Sponsored by one of the world’s leading ship and energy brokers, Kevin is currently spearheading a maritime/capital markets team developing the first tokenised co-ownership financial instrument, which will enable experienced qualifying shipowners alongside institutional investors, to co-invest and manage individual large commercial cargo ships.

  • Evelthon Vassiliou

    Evelthon divides his time between the UK and Cyprus. With a diverse career spanning management consulting, market research, property development, and fashion, he has held leadership roles including Finance Director, CEO, and Chairman.

    Evelthon has served as a trustee and co-founded charities focused on cultural preservation and LGBTQ rights respectively and served on the board of the YPO London chapter for a number of years.

    A keen traveller, he recently completed his goal of visiting every country. He holds a BA from Oxford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Gen Y Innovation Network Leadership

  • Elena Georgiou

    Elena is one of four co-founders of the UK Cypriot Enterprise Counsel’s “Gen Y Innovation Network”. She is a third generation London Cypriot, who was born and raised in Northwest London. Elena proactively maintains a close link to Cyprus, her Cypriot origins as well as with the London Cypriot community.

    Elena is a solicitor in Mishcon de Reya LLP’s Dispute Resolution department, specialising in civil fraud, commercial litigation and contentious insolvency matters. She has acted for high-net worth individuals, governments, insolvency practitioners and large companies in a wide range of disputes which are often complex and multi-jurisdictional in nature. She undertakes investigations to identify whether her clients have been the victims of fraud, obtains injunctive relief to protect assets and pursues litigation and enforcement action on behalf of clients all around the world.

  • Isabella Hadjisavvas

    Isabella is a strategy consultant at PwC Strategy&, specialising in financial services and fintech. She supports clients to develop and deliver growth strategies, in the UK and internationally. Outside of work, she is also a start-up mentor and founder of an early-stage fintech venture, backed by Innovate UK.

    Isabella is a co-founder of the “Gen Y Innovation Network”, which fosters collaboration among the next generation of British Cypriot business owners and professionals. She previously graduated from Cambridge University with a first-class degree in Human, Social and Political Sciences, having completed a dissertation on the politics of Cyprus and its impact on refugee families.

  • Matthew Hill

    Matthew is one of co-founders of the UK Cypriot Enterprise Counsel’s “Gen Y Innovation Network” and a second-generation British Cypriot.

    An ICAEW Chartered Accountant, Matthew has spent the majority of his career to date advising private equity firms on tax aspects of UK domestic and cross-border transactions, including but not limited to, leveraged buyouts, refinancing events, IPOs, fund restructures and “public to private” transactions.

    In early 2024, Matthew transitioned into the Fintech space, harnessing his deep industry knowledge to focus on client and product strategy for an early-stage tech company operating within the Private Capital sector.

  • Kiros Papaloizou​​​​

    Kiros is one of four co-founders of the UK Cypriot Enterprise Counsel’s “Gen Y Innovation Network”. Kiros is a third generation London Cypriot, who has close links to Cyprus as well as the London Cypriot community.

    Kiros is an Associate in Mishcon de Reya LLP’s Dispute Resolution Department, where he specialises in civil fraud, injunctive relief, commercial litigation and asset recovery. Kiros has experience working for both individuals and corporate clients in complex commercial disputes, including those involving misappropriation of assets or confidential information and where there are allegations of conspiracy and dishonesty. He also has experience in litigation involving a breach of fiduciary duties as well as shareholder and director disputes.

  • Alexander Drousiotis

    Alexander is a native Cypriot and Norwegian. He grew up in Cyprus, moved to the UK for studies, and retains close ties with Cyprus.

    He is a financier, currently working for the Structured Finance Energy team at Santander Corporate & Investment Banking, advising clients on debt raising, or providing financing to renewable energy and energy transition projects across Europe.

    He has experience in market leading transactions relating to offshore wind, onshore wind, solar, battery storage, hydrogen, and carbon capture & storage.

    Alexander holds an MSc in Risk and Finance from LSE and a BSc in Economics from the University of Bristol.

Honorary Patrons

  • Lord Andrew Adonis

    Andrew Adonis, Baron Adonis, PC is a British Labour Party politician and journalist who served in HM Government for five years in the Blair ministry and the Brown ministry. He served as Secretary of State for Transport from 2009 to 2010, and as Chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission from 2015 to 2017.

  • His Excellency Ambassador Euripides Evriviades

    Mr Evriviades’s diplomatic career spans nearly forty years. He has previously served as Deputy Permanent Secretary/Political Director of the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Cyprus Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, Ambassador to the United States of America, High Commissioner to the UK and non-resident High Commissioner to Canada as well as Ambassador to the Netherlands and to Israel.

  • Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou

    Sir Stelios is a serial entrepreneur best known for his Easyjet start-up in 1995, at the age of 28. Apart from his entrepreneurial activities, Sir Stelios has also launched a number of philanthropic initiatives, through the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, supporting entrepreneurship, higher education and environmental sustainability.

  • Charles Hay, 16th Earl of Kinnoull

    Charles William Harley Hay, 16th Earl of Kinnoull DL, styled Viscount Dupplin until 2013, is a Scottish hereditary peer and Crossbench member of the House of Lords, who serves as Convenor of the Crossbench Peers.

  • His Excellency Ambassador Andreas Kakouris

    Former Cyprus High Commissioner to the UK and current Permanent Secretary of the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    In the 1980s and 90s, Mr Kakouris represented Cyprus at the United Nations General Assembly and then worked around the world in a number of missions and embassies, from Washington DC, Belgium to the European Community.

    In the 2000s and 2010s, Mr Kakouris became Ambassador to Ireland and the United States of America, High Commissioner to Canada as well as Director of the Diplomatic Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cyprus Question and Turkey Division. Mr Kakouris became High Commissioner in the UK during a tumultuous period in the UK’s recent history with Brexit and COVID-19 both beginning in 2020.

  • His Excellency Ambassador Dr Kyriacos Kouros, current Cyprus High Commissioner to the UK

    Prior to his appointment, High Commissioner Kouros, from April 2023 until assuming his duties, served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic. Previously, he served as the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic, in addition to his assignment as National Security Advisor to the President of the Republic and Head of the Intelligence Service.

    Mr Kouros is a career diplomat who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus in 1996. During his versatile career, he has served in different overseas posts and in various departments within the Ministry.

    In 2012, he was appointed Ambassador of Cyprus to the Netherlands with parallel accreditation as Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

    In 2006, he was appointed Chargé d’ Affaires of the Republic of Cyprus to Lebanon and in 2009 he was accredited as Cyprus’ first resident Ambassador to the country. During his posting in Lebanon, he dealt with two major conflicts and the terrorism wave which affected the country between 2006-2008. In this respect, he facilitated the evacuation of thousands of Cypriot and other EU citizens, providing consular assistance to those in need under life threatening conditions. For his service during this time, he was awarded the National Medal of Cedar of the Government of Lebanon.

    Other overseas postings included Athens and Geneva. He was also appointed Ministerial Envoy to Libya in July 2011 and served from 1998 to 2002 as a member of the Working Group for the Search of Missing Persons from the 1974 Turkish invasion.

    Prior to joining the Foreign Ministry, he worked from 1990 as editor at the Cyprus News Agency and from 1994 as Lecturer at the Journalism Department of Frederick University of Cyprus.

    He is a graduate of the Law Department of the University of Athens. He has a Master of Arts in International Journalism from the Journalism Department of City University of London and a PhD from the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences of Athens.

    He speaks Greek (mother tongue), English, German and French.

    High Commissioner Kouros was born in Nicosia in 1963. He is married and has an adult daughter.

  • Anastasios (Tasso) Paul Leventis CBE

    Mr Leventis is a Director of Leventis Group International Companies, which has investments worldwide and the Chairman of the A G Leventis Foundation. Apart from his business activities, which are mainly in the industrial and distribution sectors, he has also been involved in nature conservation and activities encouraging an environmental approach to development. These have extended from West Africa, where he has spent much of his working life, to other parts of Africa, Southern Europe and South America.

    Mr Leventis has served as Trustee on the Boards of a number of international civil organisations, all of which have a focus on finding solutions to the degradation of the natural environment. He holds honorary Doctorates from the University of Jos and the Agricultural University of Abeokuta, both in Nigeria.

  • Ellie Patsalos

    Ellie Patsalos is the founder and Managing Director of Patsalos Consulting Ltd, a strategic advisory firm. Prior to setting up her own firm, Ellie was a Senior Partner and Vice Chairman of Deloitte LLP, the global professional services firm.

    Ellie has vast experience providing business advisory and tax services to a wide range of global organisations. In her capacity as Deloitte Global Head of Financial Services Tax and Advisory Partner, Ellie assumed lead responsibility for a large number of the firm’s most prestigious clients. Her professional remit has covered a wide range of industries including Professional Services, Retail, Oil & Gas with a focus on Financial Services & Technology, Media & Telecommunications. Ellie’s pro-bono work includes being an active supporter for Breast Cancer, the charity, and serving as a Trustee of the Madrihna Trust (assisting high school girls and boys to progress to tertiary education in Africa, India, and Nepal).

    Ellie has a BSc. in Economics from the London School of Economics and an MBA from the Cass Business School; she has also completed the Leadership Course at IMD Business School in Lausanne. Her hobbies include trekking, running, travelling, reading, listening to music and dancing.

  • Sir Christopher Pissarides

    Sir Christopher, Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences, is Regius Professor of Economics, London School of Economics, and Professor of European Studies, University of Cyprus.

  • Stelio Stefanou OBE, DL

    Stelio moved to the UK aged 6 with his Cypriot parents. After a business career in the oil, construction and public services industries, culminating in the sale of his business, Accord plc, in 2007, he has established a charitable foundation now known as “For Baby’s Sake” which is dedicated to breaking cycles of domestic abuse and giving babies the best start in life. Stelio had also been a trustee of employment charity ‘Tomorrow’s People’ (no longer in existence), as well as Chair of the Wave Trust, and is one of Hertfordshire’s Deputy Lord Lieutenants.

    He has held various industry roles, including CBI Regional Chairman and Chairman of the CBI Local Government Panel, and was awarded the OBE for services to business in 2004. Stelio served as founding Vice-Chairman of the UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council for a period of 9 years.
