On 14th November 2024, the Council organised an exciting and highly topical event jointly with the Hellenic Tech Network.
Held under the auspices of HE the Cyprus High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Dr Kyriacos Kouros at the Cyprus High Commission in London, the event focused on the limitless possibilities of AI in health, financial services, enterprise data intelligence and on the general impact of AI on the world of business and on the way people live and work. It also touched on the potential of Cyprus as a hub for AI talent and technology.
Peter Droussiotis, Chairman of the UKCEC, hosted the event together with Irene Stylianou of the Hellenic Tech Network and Alexander Drousiotis of the UKCEC Gen Y Innovation Network.
Costas Dafos, Commercial Attache at the Cyprus High Commission, delivered short remarks on behalf of the Cyprus High Commissioner.
In his introduction, Peter Droussiotis pointed out that this is an event that resonates with the Council’s purpose and vision of building a vibrant network of talented professionals and entrepreneurs within the UK Cypriot community and, also, the broader UK/Cyprus business world.
He emphasised that this is a network with a focus on the key themes that are shaping the future of enterprise and humanity, and which lie at the very heart of the Council’s mission; and he expressed the belief that the world is at an inflexion point of transformational change like we have never seen before, and that AI will be at the forefront of that change.
The UKCEC and the HTN managed to assemble an impressive high-calibre panel which included Michalis Michael, Founder and CEO of listening247, an AI pioneer that seeks to revolutionise the way organisations harness the power of data intelligence, Anthi Papouli, RA for medical imaging at UCL and co-founder of OncoFlow, an AI powered search engine for oncology, Marina Antoniou Executive Board Member and University of Oxford Fintech graduate, and Christoffer Noring, Senior Cloud Advocate at Microsoft.
Panel presentations were followed by a lively debate with audience participation in a room packed with a diverse group of professional and businesspeople, including many women and young professionals and entrepreneurs.
Closing remarks were delivered by Louis Loizou, Chairman of the Hellenic Tech Network.
