The UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council is saddened by the recent passing of former President of the Republic of Cyprus, George Vassiliou.

President Vassiliou was a political giant who left his mark on Cyprus, Europe and internationally. 

He made a huge contribution to the modernisation and development of the Cypriot economy and was a pivotal force in the eventual admission of the Republic of Cyprus into the European Union. 

He was also a leader utterly committed to the reunification of the island through peaceful dialogue with the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot community and made strenuous efforts to maintain strong links with the community at all levels. President Vassiliou was full of energy, a visionary, a strategist and a powerful communicator who projected natural charm and an ability to connect with people.

We extend our sincere and profound sympathies to his wife, Androulla, and to his children, including his son, Evelthon Vassiliou, who is a long-standing member of our Board. 

May his memory be eternal.
